Daisy's Story

Sharon Beckwith founded Daisy’s Children in memory of Deysi Suyapa Madrid Chavez. Deysi (Daisy), was a 24 year old mother of four who died on May 5, 2008 of starvation because she made the selfless decision to feed her four children rather than eat herself.

In her tragic death she left behind her husband, Carlos, and their four children. The youngest, Maria Ernestina, 2, currently resides with another family in central Honduras and the three remaining children live with their father.

Deysi perished in an effort to provide for her children. To honor the ultimate sacrifice she so readily made Daisy’s Children was created. The North Berwick, Maine based non-profit group was established with the idea that this type of terrible tragedy never occurs again.

We hope you will join us in keeping Daisy’s memory alive and ensuring that the children of these communities receive the same opportunity as your child, nephew, niece, or loved ones have.

What We Do

Daisy’s Children provides many vital services to the children and families of Honduras.

Because of the food, water, shelter, regular meals, and other necessities Daisy’s Children provides, many of these children are alive today.

To fund these life-saving supplies and programs, Daisy’s Children raises American dollars through ongoing fundraisers and projects.

We hope you will join us in ensuring that the children of these communities receive the same opportunity as your child, nephew, niece, or loved ones have.
